Urban Decay by BrandonRechten Urban Decay by BrandonRechten
I used to love coming to this building and wandering around inside it. I remember when I first ventured there -- it was a cold winter day. The air was brisk and the only sounds to be heard were of my feet crunching broken glass, the rustling of the leaves, blowing around inside and the occasional fluttering of wings as pigeons entered and exited from above.

This building no longer exists. It was razed to the ground a few months ago, which saddened me, despite the fact that it had been abandoned for about 15 years and was generally an eye-sore to the rest of the town. Thankfully, I still have a decent number of photos of which to remember it by.

That's a great piece! We run a small press magazine called Morpheus Tales (www.morpheustales), and we're currently working on an Urban Horror Special issue. We'd love to use your artwork in the magazine. Unfortunately we can't pay but you would receive an electronic contributor's copy of the magazine.

Let us know if you're interested: morpheustales@blueyonder.co.uk

thanks,

Adam

Thanks! Yeah, I was more than a little disappointed when I drove by and saw it had been torn down. I'm glad I was able to get a good number of shots before it was though.

Oh yeah, I'm sure I would be just as disappointed. That really does stink, although I understand why it needs to happen a lot of the time. Safety and all that. Glad you got those good shots, too.

Hello stranger!

Just a note to say I've bothered this photograph of yours in a journal feature 'Lost furniture'.. Which may or may not turn into a news feature.

It'll be on my front page, assuming this messge gets to you in time :)

Hahaha, this place looks an odd kind of comfy with all those sofas. Looks like the walls are decorated with drapes and carpets, even though it's just the insulation falling from the walls. The lighting reminds me of some atmospheric club, dark with pools of light highlighting places... Wish I could have explored this building, too!

Heh, I try to keep a relatively low-profile when visiting abandoned buildings. I've been escorted off property by the police before, but I've never gotten fined or anything. For the most part if you don't look like you're trying to cause trouble or damage anything, and if you're respectful, they're fairly pleasant.

Hmm... there IS an old mental hospital just down the road. But I always figured I'd get arrested. And then I realize I'm over 18 and the prospect of getting arrested gets ever so more uncomfortable.
